Using linux for my temporary OS on new computer build?

Hi I am building a new computer and I am trying to save some money by instead of getting windows, using Linux on it because it is free. I am just not sure if that is okay to use linux as the first use OS. I know how I can get it on there by using a different computer but will it be alright to use it for the first couple months and when "I get the extra money, buying windows 7 then using that. Will there be any problems considering BIOS, hardware etc?
