Do you think whiskey with tonic water would be good?

No. Whiskey (any whiskey --Irish, scotch or bourbon) are best served neat except with one ice cube to release the oils. If the Scotch is especially good you might just leave the ice cube in the freezer. Tonic water is a very bitter taste that would overpower a whiskey.
